Do you really have to do all of the program? In general, the more conscientiously you can stick to the program, the better. However,
everybody is different with regard to what has caused them to sleep poorly, and what
helps them to sleep better. This is very much a self-help program. You use the program to
help you to work out what is important for your sleep. There are a number of different
ways you can do this.
You may decide that you will do the full program for the full 4-6 weeks, and modify it
after that. You may decide that you will do the full program for the first two weeks,
and consider after that whether to drop or modify any parts that seem not to be
relevant to your situation. You may say: 'I’ll do the full program for 4-6 weeks except
for one or two parts which I don’t want to do and which I don’t think will be helpful
for me'. If you have only minor sleep problems, you may chose to use just a few parts
of the program which you believe to be the key ones for your particular situation.
I repeat: in general, you give yourself the best chance if you use all of the key strategies
of the program for the full 4-6 weeks. But if you feel that there is part of the
program that is of no relevance to you or that would disturb your sleep, then feel
free not to do that part.
