VictorIrregular or erratic sleep: Victor, 30, single public servant.
Problem: Began 24 years ago. Has suffered since childhood from bouts of insomnia, no
known cause. They go on for a couple of weeks at a time. Fears that it may be hereditary -
father had sleep problems.
Before: During bouts of insomnia, it generally takes a couple of hours to get to
sleep. Can't slow his mind, starts to sweat. Sometimes he seems to be heading for sleep,
but 'it's as if I stop myself'. Often feels he does not sleep at all. Is tired during the day.
After: Sleeping a lot better. No bouts of insomnia since starting the program. Falls
asleep within 30 minutes on six nights a week. Is awake less during the night. Has one bad
night a week, but recognises that this is normal. Is less tired during the day. Is 'very
happy' with the improvement in his sleep. Having a tried and tested sleep program that many
others have used successfully seems to have been helpful.
